Experiences
Cairns is a nature lover's paradise. Sitting at the top of Tropical North Queensland, this thriving tourist city is the gateway to the World Heritage Listed Great Barrier Reef, as well as the Daintree National Park and Cape Tribulation.
There are plenty of ways to experience these natural wonders, with trips and tours available daily from Cairns. Take a leisurely sightseeing boat trip out to the reef and watch the magical underwater world below from the dry heights of a viewing platform, or get up close and personal with the marine life by snorkelling or diving on the reef.
Another popular place to visit is Kuranda in the beautiful Atherton Tablelands. Take the SkyRail cable car and glide above the spectacular rainforest canopy to the laid-back market town of Kuranda. Catch the Kuranda Scenic Railway back to Cairns to enjoy more breathtaking scenery as it winds through rainforest and past tumbling waterfalls on its way back down to Cairns.
Cairns itself has much to offer the visitor, with a great choice of restaurants and cafes, shopping and sightseeing. Wander across to the Cairns Lagoon in front of the Mantra Esplanade and enjoy the tropical ocean breezes for that true Cairns experience. In the evening, stroll down the Esplanade to the night markets where you'll find souvenirs, aboriginal art work, crafts, homewares and jewellery.
