Take in the incredible scenery from Melbourne to Lorne and break up the short journey with the sights of the Victorian Surf Coast along the way.
So that you can make the most of your journey, we’ve compiled three unmissable experiences from Melbourne to Lorne to make your journey one to remember.
Experience one: Torquay
The official start of the Great Ocean Road is in Torquay. A small town ingrained in surf culture. Learn about the surfing history of the town at the Surfworld Museum and if you’ve brought your board along with you, paddle out at the famous Bells Beach, home of the Rip Curl Pro.
Experience two: Point Roadknight, Anglesea
Stop at Point Roadknight in Anglesea for a view worth getting out of your car for. Set halfway along the Surf Coast, the walk is about a 3km round trip from the town. Once you reach the top, spend some time taking in the amazing views over the town and watch the ocean crashing below you. Later, walk back down to the base of the bluff with a beautiful beach just waiting for you to relax by.
Experience three: Otway Harvest Trail
There are a few options for your final experience on the road to Lorne. Following the Otway Harvest Trail choose between local breweries, berry and fruit farms with quaint cafes, provedore grocers and restaurants.
Great Otway National Park will spoil you with stunning rugged coastlines, rock platforms, windswept sandy beaches and breathtaking waterfalls. Make sure you take the time to visit Cape Otway Lightstation for a chance to witness the oldest surviving lighthouse on the Australian mainland.
